Movie Critics Suck Ass

Last Friday, the other half and me finally get to see the awaited “Clerks II”. I haven’t laughed that much in a long time. It’s the good, refreshing film that I have come to expect from Kevin Smith. A job well done indeed. Hollywood should learn something, it’s possible to make a good film on a cheap, cheap budget (Clerks II cost only $5 million to make).

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Joel Siegel walked out of the press screening of this film. Yes, that Joel Siegel, the man who never seems to say anything but “Great! Four stars!” to everything, even if it’s dreck and terrible. Details of what transpired (ripped from IMDB.com) are below

The Siegel Fiasco

The Great Tape Archive Project of 2006

As the title suggests, I am finally getting my tape collection back in order, mainly just for myself. I don’t plan to start trading again (Greg handles that stuff anyway). What’s the big deal you ask? Well, I lost my listing of Match Game episodes, so I’m almost done relogging them. It’s been quite fun actually, lots of great memories to be relived from trades past.

And for those of you who have traded in the past on my friends list, remember how much Matt Kaiser’s tape quality sucks? Yeah, I hear you screaming out there.

Not much more to do other than that.

OK, so I have dropped History 2010, however, I have added it to my plate for fall, I just think five weeks is way too fast to study something like history. It’ll make the tests easier on me.

Oh, bri2kprods, give me a shout on AIM and I’ll get that guide over to you.

Not much going on this week, just trying to get through this History 2010 class and get it out of the way.

Am trying to get my videotapes logged and back in order. I am having to relog my Match Game episodes because I didn’t have it backed up and, well, the internet archives just plain suck, I got every page back but that one. I wonder why…

My thoughts on the all-star game in MLB… blah. What an exciting snooze fest.

And did I mention I am addicted to Nick GAS now, Finders Keepers makes for a great bedtime show. 😛

Say hello to the newest intern at WCYB-TV 5. I start with a week of 9-6 training on August 14th (after my History 2010 class ends which would conflict with that).

Booyeah!

T-Minus 14 Hours

Normally by this point, the night before an interview, I am a nervous wreck. Surprisingly, I am at peace and calm. This is quite unusual. Maybe I am finally confident in myself for once in my life. At least I’m not letting it overload myself. I just plan to convince them that I want to do a good job for them tomorrow, and not make an ass of myself (don’t worry, there is not a chance in hell of that happening).

TV Production also wraps up tomorrow. By the luck of the fates, I get to interview Greg in one part of one of the programs tomorrow. He will get grilled for about 90-120 seconds. 😛

Ta ta for now.

My interview is set for Friday at 2:00 PM… I think I’ve pretty much got it, seeming as how there is a lack of competition. If I don’t get it, I’ll be very, very surprised.

I directed Bust-a-Grade this morning… oh man, what a disaster. I got a B, but the rest is a loooong story. I’ll save that for another entry.

Heck, I might just encode a video of the worst seven minutes I’ve directed to date.

I know I can do better than I did, and I will do better given the opportunity again.

Well, not much more to say now, hope everyone had a good 4th.

Plans for the 4th

Greg and I are going to watch the fireworks at Liberty Bell Park tomorrow, provided we don’t cook in the heat first. Now, is there anywhere else that does fireworks on the 3rd, even though it’s on a Monday, and the 4th is on a Tuesday? It makes no sense to either of us, but that’s the way it goes.

I can’t help but feel anxious however regarding the pending internship, it feels like it’s a year away even though it will be later this month.

EDIT:Finally ditched the old pic of me and got a better looking one.

I have been contacted by the head of the news department, and was told that if I get it, I would start at the end of this month. He’ll set up an appointment, more than likely an interview, next week. This is the most exciting thing to happen all year long.

🙂

So, the final exercise in TV Production starts tomorrow, with the first of four days of taping (we get Monday and Tuesday off for the holiday). And the run-through, which we did tape, was something that will be played next year as a blooper at the alumni/student picnic. It’s beyond description. Let’s just say that it will go much better tomorrow.

Also, the head of the Broadcasting department, Tom, came up to me yesterday and asked if I would be interested in an internship through the Virginia Association of Broadcasters at WCYB in Bristol. (For those of you not from this market, that is Channel 5, NBC affiliate). What an amazing opportunity. He said it would be for fall or maybe just before it. I am eligible because I graduated from a Virginia high school. If I get it, it’s 20 hours per week as a news videographer. It’s a start, I hope you all are pulling for me to get this, so far I don’t think there is any competition…

Time to study cues and commands again…
