Damn Yankees

All I can say is one word…

Fuck.

What a down way to start the second half.

Sunday Sunday

Well, another boring Sunday has come. Have had a good weekend with Greg, going up to Roanoke on Friday, then just out exploring the roads yesterday and taping footage. Thinking of going to a baseball game tonight and trying out a new tripod we got and how my camera skills play out.

Just wanted to drop a quick linke. Hey jarockjores, shout at me on AIM sometime, screenname is ETSUBuc25.

Toodles.

Mark it in the history books that as of 2:25 AM early on the morning of 7 July 2005, I offically completed the last assignment in Radio/TV Writing. THANK GOD!!!!

That is all…

Writer’s Thoughts…

You know, being in this Radio/TV Writing Class has been fascinating, especially when I get to critique other commercials and read all sorts of insane ideas. It’s just amazing what some people will try to pass off for a “script”.

For example: we had a 30-second radio spot assigmnent for “Ache Eze”, a joint/muscle pain reliever that comes in a new, cream roll-on version that won’t stain. I read one of the ads, and saw the following notation…

SFX: APPLYING CREAM

…and I tried to hold back the laughter. When I told Greg about it, I lost it completely. How in the world are you supposed to simulate this sound effect? Does it sound like someone making yogurt, or someone opening a fresh can of tennis balls (you know, when the air escapes)? Baffles the hell out of me…

Oh well, at least I’ll just turn in my work and hope it’s halfway decent. Anyone want to read stuff, let me know and I’ll send stuff over.

I got up this morning and just felt drained. Completely drained. Like I didn’t want to leave my room and be seen in the world. It was a very insecure feeling. I have to get back on my horse because me and two others are meeting at 7:00 PM to discuss a PSA project due a week from Friday. I also have two script premise checks due tomorrow. Gee, now I know what it’s like to be a writer in television (well, sorta I guess, at least I don’t have to have a whole draft by tomorrow).

Thursday Thoughts

Well, I’ve been raiding the tape library a lot more lately and found more interesting stuff.

(Disclaimer: The following will only make sense to local people on my list, if any)…

I found several tapes of a WSJK (Ch. 2, PBS, Sneedville) show called Omni, just a show with news, culture, sports stories from around our region, with hosts wrapping those together with introductions. Among those hosts of the past is one Kenny Hawkins, current sports director at WJHL 11 (CBS), complete with the standard 80’s Jerry Curl! I don’t usually laugh at hairdos of the era, but it just looked plain weird!

Also found a 1994 tape of a campus show called Spectrum that dealt with the lores of ghosts in the buildings here on campus. Fascinating material indeed…

BTW, any dramatic shows I have watched have the worst acting I have ever seen. Even if you’re supposed to have it resemble a professional production, and you’re limited by who you can have in the way of talent, still I think one could find better actors for their project. But, however, it will always be a universal constant that you will find horrible actors/actresses for a college prodcution… especially if you choose to do a soap opera.

The first edit of the first show of our personal project is complete, and it just felt way too short. So, we expand to a half-hour and have to shoot more material (ugh) tomorrow. We’re learning the hard way on how to do this, that’s for sure.

Gotta go take a midterm, ugh. See yas later.

Well, not much exciting has happened lately. Me and Greg are continuing work on our project, and I have learned the hard way, it’s better when you’re on camera and on location and on a schedule to go off the cuff rather than try to read a script. Let’s just say it took me fourteen takes to get one shot done. Eeesh.

The writing class is interesting right now, we have to find a local non-profit or chartiy organization and actually pay them a visit, I think next week or the week after… and I don’t know where to being to find a charitable or non-profit organization around here. But, I’m sure Google can help. Google is powerful, if you know how to use it, mwhaha.

Still waiting for a job to pop up, hopefully it won’t be too much longer…

That’s all for now, toodles.
