Well, all the dust has settled and I’m in my new apartment living comfortably. Everything has been better since the U-Haul debacle. Nothing much else really to say… been trying to get back in touch with some local friends lately, just to see how they’re doing and such.

I’m sorry my life isn’t more interesting than that, hehe…

Next post will be about TV Production class, still trying to figure out what to say about it.

June 16th, 2006– A Day Which Will Live in Infamy (well, in my life anyway)

My moving on Friday, June 16th was, for all intensive purposes, a nightmare. Around 9:30 AM, I picked up a U-Haul I had reserved the previous Friday, drove it to my new apartment, and waited for Greg so we could go to class. It happens without a hitch, so far so good. After class, me and Greg have to get moving, because Greg’s grandmother’s funeral was set for 6:00 PM (class being over at approx. 12:25 PM). We get to the U-Haul, go to his place (where my stuff was stored) and load the stuff up. Now we’re at about 2:00 PM, we get in the U-Haul, turn the key, the engine is turning over, and it DOESN’T START! At this point, I thought I was surely cursed.

After Greg’s dad looked at it, I had to call the Breakdowns 800 number. They promised a mechanic would be out in an hour, it took him over 90 minutes. At this point, Greg had to ride with his parents to go to the funeral, so I was left with the mechanic. He said that the fuel pump was out. He beat on the fuel pump and was able to get it started, then followed me to Johnson City to make sure I got to my destination OK. That was nice of him.

So, I get the U-Haul to my new apartment at around 6:00, and for some reason or another, I hauled ass to get all of my stuff unloaded by about 6:50. I called the service center to see if they wanted to go ahead and send a tow out to get the truck, and he told me to try and start it. Lo and behold, it started! The guy on the phone told me to go ahead and take it back to the place I got it, don’t stop and don’t worry about putting fuel back into the truck. I end up getting it back at about 7:10 PM, when it was due at 7:00 PM. They didn’t charge me a cent for anything other than what I would have paid normally. It ended up costing $43 even with a $7 dolly rental.

I must say again: what a NIGHTMARE. But at least it’s over and now I’m pretty much settled into my new apartment. It sure is nice and peaceful here, it gets warm at times, but I grew up that way, so it’s no big deal.

Today was my first official exercise as a Director. A simple one minute commerical with one camera and one person, hence why it’s called the 1-1-1 exercise. I did a good job, just held a zoom-in too long on the product the talent was demonstrating. I’ll improve with time. I got an A, so I’m glad with that.

On the apartment front, I got a new place for $250/month and $150 deposit, and it’s a lot nicer than the bug haven I was at. The manager was very, very nice and, even though it’s a one room efficiency with a kitchen and small bathroom, I think it will suit me well for a good price. I guess destiny points me in the right direction again.

Greg’s grandmother passed away earlier tonight. He said he’ll be okay, that he really wasn’t that close to his grandmother, but his mom is giving him a bunch of crap about not caring about his family that is total irrelevant bullshit. All the more reason why Greg needs to get away from his condemning mother.

Anyhoo, I should be online in the new place approximately the start of next week, and oh brother, I get stuck with Comcast because Charter dosen’t cross Comcast’s lines in Johnson City. Oh well, at least I’m only a mile from campus and not six this time, so I guess I’ll learn to live with it.

That’s all I have, take care…

Monday morning at 11:20 AM, TV Production class begins for the next five weeks. It should be an interesting class full of information I want to know. This is what I want to do in life, be behind the cameras calling the shots. It should be a fun time. And all the better, Greg is there.

However, some things never change in life. I can’t sleep. I never seem to sleep the night before I start a new class, and while I’m not meeting any new people, the same people are there that I’ve had other classes with, still, some habits die hard. I guess I’ll be the groggiest person in class tomorrow, but I think I’ll be better by Tuesday.

More tomorrow…

Not much to report, just continuing to relax before class starts on Monday and the search for a new apartment begins. Everything is out of that bug infested filfth, and I was careful not to carry any out with me. What an experience that I’ll never forget, that’s for sure.

My thoughts on Game Show Marathon (for those of you of similiar interest on the list)… Eh. It has its good moments, it has its bad moments, but I must agree with the majority, someone tell Ricki not to scream so damn much.

TV Production class starts on Monday, after finally badgering Greg into taking the class in five weeks instead of four months, I think it will be fun. Hoo-ha!

Monday night/Tuesday morning was by far the worst day of the year to date. That cough turned into me having the same stuff that Greg had, I had to go to the ER and get two doses of nausea medicine and some fluids from dehydration. Left at 2:00 AM, didn’t get back until 8:00 AM. Finally felt good by Thursday.

Moving stuff out of the bug infested apartment tomorrow and Monday and turning those damn keys back in, I’ll be so glad to be rid of that place, no matter what lease I signed. Just about another week to go before the summer classes start, fun fun, and looking for a new place then upon finally having the money to do something about it.

Greg is home now. The story is that he picked up a viral infection from his grandfather and grandmother who are in the hospital too (she with a broken hip, he got sick and passed out at her bedside). Greg got out at 4:00 PM today. We’re both home now and I seemed to have picked up a cough out of the air, so now I’ve got to stay away from everybody. Oh brother, it never ends. :-\

While I was asleep, Greg started to vomit really badly and went weak. His dad took him to the ER in Johnson City and he’s gotten one IV and is still feeling bad, so they have put him on another IV. I am so scared for him right now, I am here at his house waiting for news with his mother. I might have to go down there later on and be with him so his father can get some sleep. I have never been so scared in all of my life because I have never had someone I love so much under such dire pain and sickness. I hope he will be OK but I will do whatever I have to do to take care of him.

God please help me.

So, the new place I have moved into is TERRIBLE. I picked it in too much haste, that’s for sure. Why can’t I ever learn from my own stupidity sometimes. I am already working on getting another place, I don’t care what lease I signed (they didn’t even notarize the damn lease, I think it’s not binding, anyone have any thoughts on that?).

Not much more to report, altered what I’m taking this summer, am taking TV Production first term and moved my history class to the second term, and of course I’ll be working at the TV station too. Schedule TBD on that.

In roadgeeking news, the I-26 mile markers here in TN, which have reflected the former North-South mileage are being changed over finally to East-West mileage (merely reversing the markers), Greg and I are going tomorrow to observe the new mile markers that have been placed so far.

I’ll try to post more often, whenever I can get to a computer with internet access. Ciao for now.
