What am I doing right…

My fantasy football team is 2-0. How did I manage that? I didn’t think I was going to pull my last game out, but I did. Hope the win streak continues… even if I had to go get a kicker off of waivers because my only kicker is on a bye week.

Everything at 5 is good. I hope to be trained on the live truck soon, it sounds like they could use someone else that knows how to do it on the weekends. My good friend Josh got promoted from an intern to a full-time position. I hope to do the same within the next year or so, anything can happen.

Not much else to report on… so I’ll leave it at that.

BTW, xanfan, me and Greg are pulling for your mom to pull through her trying time, let us know if we can do anything to help.

What a rush the last few days have been. Having a good time over at 5, the news can be an exciting game, at least in videography. Still trying to get a good picture everyday, but it seems like I can do better. Life is a constant challenge to do better, I guess.

To those of you wondering where my picks are and where is headed… I have decided not to go forward with this at this time. It may come back next year, but I just don’t have enough time to do it right now. It’s not a big deal to me really, it was just something fun to do last season and I won’t lose any sleep over it, I know you guys won’t either… (except for sport6449, it may make him want to go out and find some more feet, lol, just kidding, Chuck.)

I guess I just don’t have the journal-worthy life, everything is OK, nothing really bad going on, about the only major thing is that Greg and I are going up to my brother’s house on Sunday to help him with a modem issue (yes, he’s using dialup, but that’s about all you can get in the boonies of Scott County, VA these days, no DSL or cable modems).

BTW, Greg is going in to interview for an internship at 5 today, I have everything possible crossed that he’ll be able to make it on. It would be a blast to have him there.

Can’t think of much more… anyone ever have an issue of their .com name expiring and they have to try to get it back? Any recommendations because it’s not looking pretty right now.

All for now…

Everything at WCYB is well, I have to go in tomorrow moring for one more day (at least) of training, they just want to make sure I’m up to speed on everything before I assume a regular shift. Make sense to me.

I almost got hit in the Wal-Mart parking lot earlier this evening. I’ve had enough of people cutting across parking lots… so I sent a letter to the editor of the Johnson City Press (the first time I’ve ever sent a letter to the editor) regarding this, the letter is below…

Letter to the Editor – 8/20/06

Well, here’s how it went the first couple of days…

Monday I show up and am a tad nervous, but very confident. I get assigned to a photographer to learn the ropes. The story we went out on was some major copper theft in Washington County, VA, someone stole a whole tractor trailer full of it, around $100,000 value when recycled. It was very interesting, and I was learning a lot about the camera and what shots to try to get, etc. Then went back to the station and got the first lessons on their editor, very interesting stuff.

Today, me, the photog. I was with and the reporter had to go out to do live stuff in Kingsport because it was imminent that they would finally get a new city manager. A live truck is quite an operation, one that I’ll probably learn to operate eventually. The reporter did the 5:00, 5:30 and 6:00 live, and almost went off without a hitch. In the last 10 seconds of the 6:00 live hit, the camera battery died, leaving audio, black and the bug on the screen. Cripes. And yes, it was expected, but the photog. thought that he had taken measures sufficient enough to last the duration, but it didn’t. Oh well, that’s the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Lord only know what’s in store for tomorrow, but one thing is for sure, it’s gonna be fun. 😀

So, tomorrow begins a new chapter in my life, my first day as an intern for WCYB-TV. I am due there at approx 8:45 AM for the 9:00 AM meeting of the news department, after that, I’ll be assigned with a cameraman and start to learn the ropes. I couldn’t be more excited and just a tad bit nervous at the same time.

You know, it feels kind of surreal to be stepping foot in a station that you have watched all of your life as a employee. I’ll get used to it probably after a few days or so, but still, man. It’s hard to put into words. Don’t get me wrong… I’m not some loon who is going to shoot a load upon entering the place, but I just enjoy being affoirded this opportunity.

I just hope my car will behave, it does need some work done on it…

Yes, it’s an Update…

Not had much to say lately. Been just working on campus Mon-Thurs. and relaxing (or at least trying to relax) the rest of the time. I have an appointment to go down to WCYB on Thursday at 2:00 PM to sign all the paperwork and get my drug test out of the way, then I’ll officially be an employee of WCYB. Exciting indeed. 🙂

Just as a disclaimer: I won’t post too much here about what’s going on, and if I do, I will never mention names and such. I won’t post anything negative here, and I shouldn’t anyway, by what I’ve heard, they’ll work me a lot, but they’re a nice bunch over there and I should have a good time. I know two or three people over there already, either through people in the department that work over there now or people I’ve met offhand around the studio.

Well, that’s about all in my boring old life for now…

Movie Critics Suck Ass

Last Friday, the other half and me finally get to see the awaited “Clerks II”. I haven’t laughed that much in a long time. It’s the good, refreshing film that I have come to expect from Kevin Smith. A job well done indeed. Hollywood should learn something, it’s possible to make a good film on a cheap, cheap budget (Clerks II cost only $5 million to make).

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Joel Siegel walked out of the press screening of this film. Yes, that Joel Siegel, the man who never seems to say anything but “Great! Four stars!” to everything, even if it’s dreck and terrible. Details of what transpired (ripped from IMDB.com) are below
